In Studio with Artist Anna Valdez

As an artist, Anna Valdez pulls objects from her own personal history and background in anthropology to build her still lifes.  She arranges objects such as quilts, books and photographs to create dynamic compositions full of pattern and with a nod to historical figures Valdez makes direct references to the painting canon.  Valdez is a recent MFA graduate from Boston University and upon moving back to the Bay Area, picked up a great studio in Norton Factory Studios (NFS).  NFS houses 18 artist studios in what once was a manufacturing factory. Located around the corner from Fruitvale BART, NFS are at the forefront of creating a tight-knit art community with Valdez as an active advocate.

After numerous trips to Valdez’ studio, we are excited to include her work in two exhibitions, All That Surrounds Us with Andrew L. Rogers and RE/SITE a solo show curated by Hayley Ashkenas.   Enjoy these images of our behind the scenes happenings in the studio with Anna Valdez.
